National Poetry Month 2018

So, the month of April is National Poetry Month, and I have been doing my duty of creating new poems to celebrate my chosen creative style of writing. In total, I have composed 32 poems in this month alone. For some reason, I just have been inspired to write new poetry. I even began the revisions for my book of poetry titled “Words of My Heart”, which I plan to re-release this year. I have written poems spanning many different subjects and genres. I’m looking forward to seeing how the revised version of my collection of poetry will turn out. I also have the awesome idea of producing the finished poetry collection as an audio book. Whether I will read the poetry myself, I’m not sure yet, but I would love to hear how my own words sound spoken aloud.

Well, to celebrate the ending of National Poetry Month, I want to share a poem I wrote a few years ago. In this poem, I compare writing to therapy, because for me, that is how I see writing. It is a way for me to express my deepest feelings. When I write, it brings me peace. No matter what I’m going through, once I put my thoughts to paper, everything seems like it will work itself out.

Therapeutic

My pen dashes across the page.
Writing what I can’t say aloud.
My worries.
My troubles.
The tears trickle down my face.
As I continue to write.
Everything I’m feeling.
Scribbled onto these once blank pages.
So much to say.
But I don’t have the voice to say them.
So I write.
I write to ease the pain.
A single tear drops.
And smudges my ink.
But I write on.
Pouring my all into these words.
No time to stop now.
I have to get them out.
My heart races with the speed of my hand.
Making sure not to forget a single word.
It’s like magic.
These words that I write.
Every word expertly placed.
Exactly where they’re supposed to be.
No mistakes.
They’re perfect just the way they are.
My hand begins to cramp.
But I won’t stop.
This is what I need.
So I must go on.
This is the only way.
Nothing else will do.
Music could probably do the trick.
But this is my way.
My special remedy.
To rid myself of my internal pain.
I don’t have to think too hard.
My pen does what it’s good at.
Getting everything down just right.
The way I want it to be.
Pages flip.
And I continue to write.
There is so much I have to say.
And there are plenty of lines to fill.
Hours upon hours.
Day into night.
And I continue to write.
My hearts way of healing.
No psychiatrists.
Or counselors will do.
Just me and my trusty pen.
Will get the job done.
The more I write.
The lighter my heart feels.
This is exactly what I need.
A way to cope with the pain.
Writing is my therapy.
And it suits me just fine.
There is no cost for these sessions.
And my feelings are my own.
I understand what I’m feeling.
And I know the cure.
From my heart to these blank pages.
My pain is no more.

What is thereputic for you? Leave me your thoughts below.

Words of My Heart Revisited

Book cover of Words of my heart poetry collection

Back in August of 2017, I released my first collection of poetry. The book consisted of forty-eight poems divided into seven categories. They were a combination of different poetry styles that I have learned over the years. I have been writing poetry since I first began to write, which was at the age of eleven, so “Words of My Heart” was compiled of poems spanning fifteen years of writing off and on.

I only published the poetry collection in an EBook format, because I didn’t feel that I had enough poems to successfully fill a hardback copy of the book. With only forty-eight poems, the book would’ve been pretty slim in my opinion, so I settled for just an EBook version. According to my readers though, they wanted a physical copy of the poetry collection. They liked the EBook version, but they wanted to actually flip through the pages of the book and read the poems for themselves. Which I can definitely agree with. There is nothing better than the feel of an actual, physical book in your hands, so I understand where they were coming from.

Well, I went back to the drawing board and started writing some new poems that I could include in an updated version of the book. Instead of the forty-eight poems I started with, I now have seventy-five poems that make up this poetry collection. I even added an extra category! Each section of the new version of “Words of My Heart” have poems specifically dealing with that category. I even have included some poems that I didn’t quite know where to put them, so I listed them as miscellaneous poetry. They are still poems, but they didn’t fit with any of the categories that I have selected to be included in the book.

So, now thanks to feedback from my readers, they will now have a physical copy of my poetry collection. I think this will be a nice little read to sink their teeth into. Seventy-five poems spanning eight different categories is a nice collection if I do say so myself. Who knows? By the time it is released, I might have included even more poems, so right now, it’s seventy-five in counting. LOL. In this poetry collection, I touch on different aspects of life. In my section of poetry titled, “Beat of My Heart”, I share poems dealing with love. Love is a roller-coaster in itself, so the poems in this section shows the ups and downs that love can take us through. Love can be oh so right, but it can also be oh so wrong, and these poems portray that exactly.

This collection of poetry now even includes a section of nature poems, which was not previously included. Nature is beautiful, so I decided to use my gift of words to explore the different beauties of God’s creations. I have always been told that I have a way with words, so I hope that my readers can take a look at life the way I see it. I will publish this new version of “Words of My Heart” as a second edition. I’m not sure if I will do away with the previous version yet, but more than likely I probably will. The old version will feel more like an incomplete version to me, and I don’t want readers to get that impression.

If you have already had the pleasure of reading the first version of “Words of My Heart”, then you are in for a treat with this new version. I put a lot of effort and time into making sure that I only selected the best poems I thought would entertain my readers. I have a little something for everyone in this new and improved version. My hope is that someone can take something away with them when they are done reading this collection. Whether its inspiration and motivation, a new outlook on life, adding some spice to their sex life, or just quenching their thirst for good poetry, I hope I have done my job correctly, and you are just waiting with baited breath to read another collection of poetry from me.

Right now, I don’t have an exact release date for this second edition of “Words of My Heart”, but it is definitely coming soon. Along with the release of this new version, I do plan on giving away free hardback copies to fans of poetry. Who doesn’t like free? LOL. I know I do, and if you’re a fan of poetry, that’s even better! Stay tuned to find out when the new version of “Words of My Heart” will be released. I’m letting my words flow from my heart to yours.

Seasons Come Around

Autumn leaves of different colors

Reds, oranges, yellows, and browns.

Are the colors of the leaves that cover the ground.

They make such a beautiful and colorful sight.

Even though you can’t see their brilliant colors at night.

The wind carries the leaves away like loose bird feathers.

Crisp and cool is the air in this type of weather.

Rake up the leaves for jumping fun.

Is this your favorite season of the year, autumn?

Burr it’s so cold.

The air bites at the tip of your nose.

The world looks like melted marshmallows.

Because everything is draped in fluffy white snow.

Bundle up when you go out there.

You might freeze if you get kissed by that air.

Your breath floats like a speech bubble.

If you like hot chocolate, make it a double!

Beautiful flowers blooming all around.

Pollen drifts slowly to the ground.

Birds busy with activity as bees.

Building new homes among the trees.

Spring gives the sense of new life.

The perfect weather attire is something light.

Everything seems so fresh and clean.

All the trees and lawns are beautiful greens.

The sun is like a big orange ball in the sky.

Family’s summer picnics are invaded by flies.

Pools are full of people trying to stay cool.

As the children play on the playground of closed schools.

The concrete bakes like an apple pie crust.

Trips to the beach are a vacation must.

Cold glasses of lemonade quench the thirst.

And then the sky opens with a summer rain; cloud burst!

Prisoner of Love

prison bars with hearts locked behind them

My heart wants exactly what it wants

Beating rapidly is my hearts response

I never want to lose this beautiful feeling

It’s my hopelessly imprisoned love you are stealing

Being shackled to you is something I don’t mind

Another love like this I won’t ever find

Cuffed together as eternal prisoners

This kind of love needs no weekly visitors

Locked behind our invisible bars

Our words of love carved like permanent scars

The bail to escape this love is denied

You wouldn’t be able to break out even if you tried

We’re caged together like two love birds

Our only conversation is the sound of our sweet words

We don’t need food we can survive off love alone

The next time we will see the daylight to us is unknown

The guards know they can’t break this love up

To get through to our hearts can’t be done with back up

The judge can throw the entire book at us

And I promise you that we won’t make a single fuss

We don’t mind that our love is locked down

Because when we are together our love is always around

There’s no need for fancy expensive lawyers

We’re guilty as charged so command your orders

There is no probation or early release date

I don’t want anyone else as my love mate

I’d rather we stay in our love cell together

With a love like this we can make it through whatever

My heart is jailed and yours is too

There is no other I’d do my time with than you

Someone Like Me

the sign representing the disabled

This poem is dedicated to anyone who may have a disability of any sort. Whether you are blind, deaf, wheelchair bound, have cerebral palsy, are autistic, an amputee, mentally disabled, etc, this poem is for you. We all deserved to be loved for who we are on the inside, not what people see on the outside. Love comes from the heart, not the eyes.

This poem was written specifically from my heart, but it represents all disabled people, and how we feel about how we are treated because of our disability. Men and women alike can relate to this poem. If you have ever been rejected in love because of your disability, this is for you. Know that you are worthy of love, and the right person will come along and see that.

You say I’m beautiful and sexy

But you could never be with someone like me

The fact that I can’t physically see

Makes me unworthy

Of being your girl

Or a part of your world

You like that I am intelligent

But the fact that I am blind makes it irrelevant

My personality turns you on

But for your image I am so wrong

You have a misconception

That my disability is an imperfection

My inability to see makes me less than

A real woman for a so-called real man

I am good enough for you to fuck

But at the thought of being with me you buck

What would your friends and family say?

If I had the fortune to meet them one day

Or would I just be your little secret

Your girl when convenient

If you really got to know me

Then you would clearly see

That just because I am different

Doesn’t mean you have to be ignorant

There is a whole lot more to me

Like love, compassion, and loyalty

Having a disability has its challenges

But doesn’t everyone have their own imbalances?

I am just as good as anyone else

I do my own thing, I take care of myself

But to you I am only just half a woman

So to love me is something you couldn’t

I’m independent

Not easily offended

By your lack of interest

Or hesitance for a commitment

But at the end of the day

No matter what you think or say

I know what I am worth

A blessing on this earth

A real man will see me

And know that I am worthy

Of being his girl

A part of his world

It will be your lost

Too late to defrost

Your cold closed heart

Since you didn’t want to take part

To see what could happen

For this you were slacking

So closed minded

By shallowness you were blinded

Oh I’m not angry you see

Because you missed an opportunity

To have someone like me in your life

As your girlfriend or even a wife

You left room for the next man

To get in where he can

Because he has no shame to be

With someone like me

Final Farewell

Picture of a soldier saluting

My final goodbye to you

Is breaking my heart in two

Although I’ll miss you so

In my heart I know

That you are flying high

To your new home in the sky

These tears of lost won’t last forever

Although we are no longer together

You will always be a part of me

That special part of my heart you will be

As I lay your still form to rest

The memories I have are only the best

Loving and wishing you could come back

But of course these things don’t work like that

Someone with so much life left so soon

With so many things we were so in-tune

I didn’t foresee ever losing you

But god had his plans, he knew

Life with you brought me so much joy

Your earthly departure cannot destroy

All of my greatest and happiest recollections

Will remain hidden away in my secret collections

Of memories I will cherish for all of my days

I miss you so much in so many ways

Your duties on this earth are now done

But your duties in heaven have just begun

We shall meet again one day

And I will turn to you and say

I missed you down there on earth

But god needed you because he saw your worth

So I’ll wipe my tears away

But my love for you will always stay

Deep inside my heart

We will never truly be apart

Because you will always be near

Whenever I need you here

I can look to the sky and know

That single star with its bright glow

Will be you watching over me

Sending your love down to me so heavenly

This is goodbye for now

Until I make my final bow

So save a place for me

So we can be together again for eternity

Diamond in the Rough: A Collection of Personal Essays and Poems

Picture of a shining black diamond gem

Being the inspirational person that I am, it has been put on my heart to write this book. In it, I share different accounts of things that I have experienced in my life. Much of what I talk about in this book is painful, but I feel that it can help someone out there suffering through something that they feel is pulling them under. I want to give my readers hope. I want them to know that despite how things may seem right now, things will get better. The underdog doesn’t stay down forever, and with God by your side, you can make it through any situation. That is the only way I can explain how I am still here after all I have been through. It has to be nothing but God.

I want to share with you the introduction to my book. My hope is that this book touches someone out there struggling to get through life. I want to inspire, encourage, uplift, and motivate them to keep going. Don’t give up on life. The waters may look murky now, but through strength, determination, and God, you will clear away all the murk and see the clear, clean water below. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. I had to go through all I went through in order to help someone else through it. Lets cross the finish line to victory together!

Introduction to Diamond in the Rough: A Collection of Personal Essays and poems

Introduction:

My purpose for writing this book is to help encourage, motivate, uplift, and inspire others out there who may be struggling with things in their life for which they see no way out of. It was not my intention to write a book sharing different events in my life that were painful for me, but when God puts something on your heart, you do what you are led to do. In this book I share my personal stories of trials and tribulations that I have endured. Things have never been easy for me, but through it all I am still standing, and I am stronger than I have ever been before. It took me a long time to transition into this state of mind. The roads were dark and long, and most times lonely, but I made it through. By the grace of God, I am a survivor. I am alive to tell my story. There were many times I wanted to just give up on life, but God brought me through. He is an awesome God, and heard my pleas. He delivered me from the pain and brought me peace.

The essays and poems you will find in this book are true accounts of situations that I have faced throughout the years. From child abuse, rape, and domestic violence, I share them all here. These are my true emotions, thoughts, feelings, and ideas written in these pages. I’m sure there is someone out there who has experienced one, some, or all of the situations that I have faced in this book. I want my stories to show you that you don’t have to remain a victim, but you can become the victor of your circumstances. God does not put more on us than we can carry. I know at times it seems as though things aren’t ever going to get better, but believe in your heart and soul that you will prevail. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. You are stronger than even you know you are.

If no one else has ever told you, I want to be the one to tell you that despite your dark past, you have a bright future ahead of you. We all suffer in life in some way, shape, or form, but we have to have the strength to go on, but sometimes it’s hard to smile when you’re used to frowning. For me, my life has been filled with nothing but pain and tears, but through God and his unconditional love for me, I have a reason to smile. When I shed tears, they are no longer tears of pain, but tears of joy. Through Jesus Christ, I found the love I have always been searching for. No matter what, his love will never forsake me.

I have broken my chains of pain and heartache. I am no longer a prisoner of fear, humiliation, and doubt. I know who and what I am. I now have confidence in myself that I didn’t have before. I am no longer ashamed of the things that made me who I am. I turned my trials into triumphs. Instead of breaking me, my life’s experiences made me into the diamond you see today. A diamond starts as a piece of coal deep in the belly of the earth. With time, heat, and pressure, slowly that piece of coal transforms into a beautiful gem. It took trauma, abuse, neglect, and fear to transform me into the diamond I am. Instead of letting the struggles of your life keep you buried in the ground, use those struggles to rise to the top and shine bright like the diamond you are.

When I was finally able to conquer my demons and see myself for the beautiful, light-hearted, ambitious, quizzical, unique, and extraordinary diamond I was, Blaque Diamond was born. For me, it represents words I feel describe me. It symbolizes my growth and my strength to overcome the toughest situations and still be standing. I am renewed. I am reborn. I am a Blaque diamond. Reach for your inner Blaque diamond. Let your light shine through.

A Blaque Diamond

Beautifully created from this earth

Light-hearted and full of laughter

Ambitious and goal oriented, I am

Quizzical and willing to seek knowledge in all ways possible

Uniquely different and at times the same

Extraordinary creation from god’s paintbrush

Determined to overcome all obstacles in my way

Intelligence is a gift that is priceless

Another gem within a world of beautiful gemstones

Miles of mountains and hills climbed to seek inner peace

Observant of my every day development and ways to improve me

Not easily broken and defeated, instead I conquer

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but I am my own diamond

Coming soon in April 2018!!!! Stay tuned.

Naughty by Nature

picture of woods surrounded with lots of trees

What started as a simple hike in the woods

Ended up with me on the ground, and you getting my goods

We’re naked and ready as the day we were born

In such a rush to get busy some of our clothing is torn

I can’t believe we’re doing something so crazy

Our temperatures are rising, and your eyes are glazy

We’re communing with nature in our own special way

Let our bodies do the talking; I have nothing to say

Shhh do you hear that sound?

As our bodies gyrate wildly on the ground

Twigs under my body snapping and cracking

As you grip my hips and my ass you’re smacking

Outside in the open as we’re getting it on

Sexing each other from dusk to dawn

My hair tangled and sprinkled with fallen leaves

Sweat from our bodies for which the earth greedily receives

The songs from the birds adding to our music

Along with the squishing of our natural fluids

This is so wild, so fucking exhilarating

Our bodies colliding as we continue our mating

No one’s around to spy, just us and nature

We’re caught up in our love-making, we sense no danger

Dirt and pebbles cover your knees, because you’re hard at work

Every thrust you give causes my body to respond and jerk

Our moans and groans are carried away by the wind

You’re going so deep, my legs are spread wide and pinned

Squirrels skipping along from tree to tree

Glancing down with curiosity at you and me

This is something new, something we’ve never done before

The thrill of the moment is making me want more and more

I’m screaming your name, and I have no shame

I would say that our raging hormones are the ones to blame

Your pleasurable grunts as you drive yourself deeper and deeper

The feeling you are giving me is making me weaker and weaker

The momentum is coming; it’s almost there

As the scent of our love permeates the air

Just a few more thrusts, and we’ll climax together

This was the most daring sex session we’ve had ever

Our groans erupt as you explode deep inside

Damn I can’t believe we really had sex outside

Author Q and A: Annette Whitaker-Moss

Picture of author Annette Whitaker-Moss

“My mouth will speak with caution, but my tongue has no limits as my heart strives to motivate happiness, joy, and understanding the essence of love and longevity.” – Annette Whitaker-Moss

Blaque: On today’s author spotlight, I’m taking a trip down south to Houston, Texas. I have the pleasure of speaking with Annette Whitaker-Moss.

Annette: It is nice to meet you Blaque Diamond.

Blaque: It is nice to meet you as well. So, are you originally from Houston?

Annette: Yes, I grew up in Houston, Texas.

Blaque: Nice. So, what do you write?

Annette: I am a poet and author. I have been writing poetry since I was young.

Blaque: Awesome! I write poetry as well, and I write what I consider contemporary African-American fiction. I’m sure your poetry expresses your joy, faith, pain, and love throughout each and every word. So, I want to let readers get to know more about the woman behind the poetic proses.

Annette: Great! I have a lot to tell my readers about myself.

Blaque: As we all do. It’s nice sometimes to pull off the professional attire and put on some lounging clothes to relax in. That’s the kind of scene I like to paint, so author’s can be themselves and open up to their readers. So, tell me, what makes you uniquely you?

Annette: What makes me uniquely me is my sense of humor and the truthfulness and sarcasm within it. Once a person understands my personality, I am then recognized as a very good friend.

Blaque: Do you prefer writing your first drafts on paper or the computer? Why?

Annette: I prefer writing my first drafts on the computer because it’s neater, faster in correcting errors, and easier to add or delete, if desired.

Blaque: Where do you get most of your story ideas?

Annette: Most of my story ideas come from life experiences of myself and others sharing what they have gone through.

Blaque: Yes, I can definitely agree to that. What I write, I’m sure someone in this big ole world has experienced before, even if I don’t know them personally. That’s why readers can relate to my work so well. It’s reality. So, what advice would you give someone who aspires to be an author?

Annette: I tell everyone I know who has a passion for writing to always write their thoughts and ideas down on paper or the computer, because that’s what writers do, they write. The goal is to keep writing and creating. You can always organize, edit, etc., if you have a starting point. Publishing and marketing is a whole lesson on its own, but you can’t start publishing unless you have written something down. So, keep writing!

Blaque: That is some sound advice you gave. My zodiac sign is Virgo, what is your zodiac sign?

Annette: My zodiac sign is Sagittarius, which has a suggested personality of high purpose, creativity and ambition. I can truly say that I fit all three categories.

Blaque: If you were trapped on a desert island and could bring only one person, who would it be and why?

Annette: If I was trapped on a desert island, I would bring my BFF, because we have weathered many storms together. Our faith and strength are in God. Through him, all things are possible. The two of us would encourage one another and survive any ordeal we encountered.

Blaque: Do you have any other talents besides writing?

Annette: My other talents, as a teenager, was oil painting and playing the piano. I haven’t done much of either lately since I started writing, but I still have a passion for both. Someday, when time permits, I would like to start again painting and playing the piano.

Blaque: Hmm . . . Interesting. As a teen, my talent was drawing. I could practically duplicate almost anything I wanted by just looking at it. I do miss drawing, but I now draw pictures with my words instead. I know I’m guilty of this, but have you ever used people you know as characters in your books?

Annette: Yes, my first novel, Good Kid in Trouble was based on true events that happened in my son’s life while he was in middle school. Things are so different from when I was in school. In this day and time, I felt it was a story that needed to be told.

Blaque: What is your all-time favorite movie?

Annette: My all-time favorite movie is Pretty Women with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. You never know how God will deliver a blessing, so people must be careful in how they treat others.

Blaque: We all have things that we are afraid of, so tell me yours. What is your biggest fear?

Annette: I am directionally-challenged. My biggest fear is being lost. I will break out in hives when I can’t find my way to any desired location. And, that’s with using the GPS. It’s ridiculous!

Blaque: Well, that certainly is a justifiable fear. I’m sure no one wants to be lost. So, I see you mentioned earlier that you have a BFF.

Annette: Yes, I do.

Blaque:  If your best friend could describe you in one word, what would it be?

Annette: Genuine

Blaque: What is the worst writing mistake you’ve ever made?

Annette: The worst writing mistake I made was not having my first book of poetry professionally edited. Although the mistakes were minimum, the price to correct them was costly.

Blaque: When you’re not writing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Annette: When I am not writing, I love to swing dance in my spare time. I’m not that good at it, but I love trying!

Blaque: Wow! Swing dancing? That’s definitely something different. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to try it though. Lol. As children we all dream of what we want to be when we grow up, so what did you want to be when you grew up? Is that the occupation you’re in now?

Annette: I wanted to be an accountant when I grew up. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Business. I did not become an accountant, but I have always worked in the accounting field.

Blaque: Do you write full-time, or is writing like a second job?

Annette: Writing is like a second job for me. Unfortunately, writing has not paid the bills, but my time is coming when writing will be my full-time job. That is the goal!

Blaque: Are you a cat, or a dog person?

Annette: I am not really an animal lover. However, I’ve had two dogs in my lifetime that I really loved and felt loved in return. My last dog was named “Missy”. I had her for seventeen years. We had to euthanize her two years ago.

Blaque: How does it make you feel when a reader tells you that they enjoyed reading your books?

Annette: I am so amazed when a reader tells me they enjoyed reading my books. I really feel blessed to know that someone else can relate and enjoy my poems and/or stories. The feedback really keeps me motivated.

Blaque: What is your goal as an author?

Annette: My goal as an author is to be an inspiration to my children, nieces, and nephews. I want them to know they can do or be anyone they want, if they work hard and believe in themselves and whatever it is that they want to do. As a writer, I want to write a best-seller that can be made into a play and/or a movie.

Blaque: As authors, I think we all would like to see our books performed on stages and broadcasted on the big-screen, including myself. What has been the hardest hurdle you had to jump over while embarking on your writing career?

Annette: I think most authors would say marketing is the hardest hurdle one has to jump over in this career. It has certainly been the hardest for me. I rather write than market, but you can’t really be successful without doing both, unless you write strictly for fun.

Blaque: I agree 100%. Marketing is definitely the hardest hurdle I am having to jump over. Once I really find my audience though, I feel things will level themselves out. As an author, we are also readers, so what is your all-time favorite book?

Annette: Sybil, written by Flora Rheta Schreiber in 1973. I am simply fascinated with multiple personality’s stories. Sybil was the first one that I read. It was the beginning of my love for identity disorder stories.

Blaque: Well, we have come to the end of another interesting and informative author spotlight interview. I enjoyed getting to know Annette just as much as I’m sure the rest of you did.

Annette: it was a great opportunity for me to open up and let my readers see the layers that make me who I am.

Blaque: Well, you know we can’t end things without giving readers a chance to check out your work. So, where can your books be found?

Annette: Of course not. This is promotion isn’t it? Lol.

Blaque: Yes, it is.

Annette: My book of poetry entitled One Heart to Another can be purchased as an EBook and paperback from Amazon and other retailers  and my novel Good Kid in Trouble can be purchased from Amazon as an EBook.

Blaque: Do you have a website?

Annette: Yes, readers can visit my website to purchase my published books, see up-coming events, and learn more about me and my writing by visiting Annette Whitaker’s Website.

Blaque: Ok, nice. Where can readers find you on social media?

Annette: I am on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Readers can feel free to follow me to keep up with the latest of my writing journey.

Blaque: Thank you so much for the opportunity to speak with you today.

Annette: Thanks so much for having me. It was nice to relax and take a load off.

Blaque: Lol. My pleasure. Until next time. Happy writing.

Don’t Give Up

Picture of men playing tug-of-war with a rope

Don’t just give up the fight

Hold on with all of your will and might

Anything worth having is worth fighting for

Even if you feel you can’t fight anymore

Things will get better in its own time

What is god’s will isn’t yours or mine

Hold on tight to what you believe

Because your dreams are meant to achieve

There will be days of disappointments

But the end result will be for your enjoyment

No matter how hard it seems

Never let go of your goals and dreams

Even when other’s doubt and wish bad on you

Know in your heart that you will make it through

Everything in time will work itself out

And that is what patience is all about

It’s not time to throw in the towel

You can make it through these trials

It will take some time and effort

But don’t think it won’t happen never

When you feel you’ve done all you can do

Just remember all of this work is for you

So don’t just give up the fight

Hold on with all of your will and might

Blind Seasons

By Maureen Mckenzie

What a thing the spring

The pretty daffodils … where?

If only for a few days and hours

The lovely smell…

That newness

The dew, the damp, cool rain…

To whirl and bring warmth again

I feel it, not see it

It’s ok. I love it

I know it’s spring…

Now, it’s summer

There’s a bummer!

It’s too hot. Is it not?

No air conditioning here

Oh, dear!

The warmth through my feet

Wearing sandals, what a treat!

Walking in the sea

As the tide comes in

Now, there a thing

I feel it, not see it

It’s ok. I love it

I know it’s summer

So, autumn

Here you are

The door is ajar

The leaves are rustling

Everyone is hustling!

Getting ready for Christmas!

No! It’s too early

But the leaves are all twirly

Colorful aren’t they?

I feel it, not see it

It’s ok. I love it

I know it’s autumn

Winter, oh burrrr it’s cold!

It’s grey out there

So I’m told…

It’s all festive with Christmas joy

I love that feeling … oh boy!

Snow crunch on ground

Ok it’s found

The white stuff under my toes

With cold it glows

I feel it, not see it

It’s ok. I love it

I know it’s winter

I can feel it, hear it

Touch it

Sense it

it’s here

it’s ok.

Isn’t it?

What’s that you are saying…?

You don’t need sight to have vision

But isn’t that a division?

Though

Between light and dark

What a lark!

But I’m ok…

Globalization, me dear!

By Maureen Mckenzie

I think the time has come near

When we must hold dear

This much we must dare

And be bold and to share

Every creed, color, religion, and nation

Without any frustration

Good will and love

Does shine down from above

But our planet is heaving

And no one is leaving

There is no escape

We have made many a mistake

In our evolution

Without thought or solution

The planet needs saving

Whilst new IPhones we are craving

The water is rising

The sun hotly shining

As icebergs melt

Depleting ozone is felt

People rush round

Much importance is found

In activity trivial

Nonsensical ritual

Wars never ending

With no peace transcending

Nuclear war could transpire

That would destroy every desire

In one moment we’d be gone

There would be no song

So, wouldn’t it be better for us?

To not make so much fuss

And our differences put aside

So no one need hide

Globalization must bring us together

Because none of us are really that clever

So, do you have an idea?

To work this all out me dear!

Bio:

I was once a visual artist who painted. I still have my art displayed in galleries as a visually impaired artist today, but now since losing most of my eyesight over the past few years to glaucoma, I have started to write poetry.  People often said to me it would be a good idea to write a diary to share my feelings of sight loss, but I feel writing words in prose is more effective and a better way for me to portray my creativity. Some say poetry should always rhyme, but I think this is true to a certain extent, but not necessary all the time

My poem Blind Seasons has to do with the four seasons… and sight loss… reality, and that is mine. I have 10% optic nerve left in each eye.

Forever Angel

Picture of an angel in a blue gown with white angel wings

This is a poem I wrote for my best friend who was having a hard time dealing with the death of her mother. The two of them were very close, and she was having a difficult time dealing with her loss. I wanted to find a way to bring her a little joy in her life, so I wrote this poem for her. I knew that it wouldn’t bring her mother back, but I hoped that it would help ease some of the pain she was feeling by allowing her to see her mother’s passing in a more positive light. If any of you have ever lost someone near and dear to you, I hope this poem brings you just a little comfort to know that your loved-one is now in a better place. They are now a forever angel watching over you from up above.

Forever Angel

You are no longer here with me

But in my heart you will always be

My love for you will never change

Even though my memories are all that remain

The times we spent together

Will last in my thoughts forever

I miss you each and every day

But I know you are in a better place

Your memory will never die

Even as the months and years go by

It hurts sometimes when I think of you

Because I think of all the things we used to do

It brings tears to my eyes

And I have to question why

Did you have to leave so soon?

When so many people were loving you

I know it’s god’s plan

But sometimes I just don’t understand

Why my heart aches so much

And I yearn for your gentle touch

You are now resting in peace

Your pain on earth has ceased

Gone but not forgotten you are

Because you will always live in my heart

Even though I wish you could’ve stayed

I would not have wanted your suffering delayed

So, go now and embark on your new journey

As you enter the gates, oh so pearly

I trust that we will meet again

So we can continue where we left off when

God called home his oh so faithful

Heaven just welcomed a forever angel

Blessings are the Children

picture of children of different nationalities

Their beautiful and angelic laughter

The sound of their feet as they pitter patter

Jumping up and down with happiness and joy

All the little girls and little boys

Excited screams as they chase and run

Smiles adorn their faces as they enjoy fun

Sniffles from pain of their freshly cut boo boo

Shouts of excitement when they lose another tooth

Energetic and cheerful they always seem to be

Playing hide and seek and climbing trees

Screams of terror at the monster under their bed

Cries of pain from falling on their head

Sweet giggles from tickles on their tummy

Moans of satisfaction as they enjoy their favorite snack, yummy

Requests to play horsy or get piggy back rides

The look of curiosity and wonder in their eyes

Pleas and request to stay up just a little bit later

The sweetness of their voices as they say their bedtime prayer

Making your day with their gentle kisses and hugs

Grossing you out because they want to play with bugs

The pride in their voice as they recite their ABC’s

Whimpers from hurt from falling on their knees

Kisses on the cheek when you’re having a bad day

Tugs on your arm when they want to play

These are just some of the things our children do

But the most beautiful of them all is when they say I love you

There’s no hesitation or second-guessing

All the children of the world are god’s blessings

I’ll Wait

Picture of an hourglass slowly counting down time

I’ll wait until you come my way

My true love that was meant for me

When we find each other our love will stay

With each other together for eternity

I’m in no rush to find out what’s out there

Because the one meant for me he will know

That all he needs is right here

Just waiting to tell him so

We will know that it is true love

Because the way we feel will make it clear

It will be blessed from the heavens above

Because god will always be near

Our hearts intertwined together

Will be the center of our life

Love, loyalty, and trust forever

You will find in me your wife

We will always make it through

All the stormy nights and rocky roads

Because you love me, and I love you

And we know how this love thing goes

Things won’t always be perfect

But we will stand together strong

Because in the end we know our love is worth it

Even when things are going wrong

We will always cherish the love we have

And never let anyone come in between

Because we are blessed with what we have

You’re my king and I’m your queen

Our unity, our partnership

Will reign like an empire

This beautiful, wonderful courtship

Will hopefully inspire

I will adore you, and you will adore me

Our love radiating through

Loving each other faithfully

As true lovers should do

So, I’ll wait patiently for you

Until it’s our turn for love; in due time

For things to fall into place the way they do

Then I will be yours, and you will be mine
